Welcome to Blackpool
The most prominent land mark that can be seen approaching the popular seaside town is Blackpool Tower inspired by the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, Blackpool Tower is 158 metres high. The Mayor John Bickerstaffe who, in the late 19th Century, decided he wanted Blackpool to have its own landmark was so impressed by the Eiffel Tower during a visit to Paris that he returned to Blackpool and set up a committee to create a similar structure in Blackpool.

In 1891 the foundations were laid and on May 14th 1894, after the construction of five million bricks, 2,500 tonnes of iron, and 93 tonnes of cast steel, Blackpool Tower was officially opened to the public.

Another famous attraction in the Blackpool sea side town is the light festival called Blackpool Illuminations a festival which takes place each year with the,The Big Switch On, being held in a specially erected arena with a celebrity turning them on by pulling the switch to light up the six miles of lights along the Promenade. First seen in 1879 and consisted of just eight arc lamps.

There are luxury hotels guest houses and bed and breakfasts to accommodate you in this charming sea side town is a popular destination with tourist.

Accommodation proprietors will generally try to please guests by meeting their needs and may be able to provide, with advanced notice, your request whether it's a bouquet of flowers, wine or chocolates for that special occasion at an extra cost.

Even though advertised as cheap guesthouses it doesn't mean less quality, you will be pleasantly surprised with accommodation in Blackpool. Standards are very high and accommodation can be quite hard to find during summer so enquiring early is recommended to avoid any disappointment.

The English Breakfast

Most guesthouses will provide a Full English Breakfast (egg, bacon, beans, tomato, sausage, hash browns) and will often be freshly sourced from local suppliers. Many now provide a gluten free breakfast for those with coeliacs disease or lactose and wheat intolerant diets, also vegetarians and vegans are catered for. Many now entice their guests with a healthier alternative to the traditional full English breakfast by providing fresh yogurts, pastries, and cereals with as much tea, coffee and toast as you like.
